I’m thinking about starting an unhealthy and costly habit to get codependent on so I can rake in some extra attention and sympathetic ego boosting while I struggle to conquer it and then get applauded when I finally do for a short time. “yeay! you temporarily stopped doing something negative! we’re all so proud of you!”. eff ya – thats where its at. i’ve been doing this all wrong.
I’ve always sarcastically wondered where the “10 year achievement chip” is for the people who never dove into an addicting substance int he first place, which seems only fair if you’re going to award such honors to those who chose to get addicted before choosing to abstain but lately I’ve been seeing too much back patting over this shit to not pipe up about it.
There were some recent instances like a dude on Facebook getting congratulatory “so proud of you” comments for not smoking an entire 7 days (gasp! – literally) but the REAL thing that made me think this was this dumb friend (sorry if you read this, but you’re fkkn dumb. its true) who just got out of rehab AGAIN and is having her 2nd “celebration party” where people come to pat her on the back repeatedly for taking another break. such a hero.
Congratulations for things you’re supposed to be doing anyway ends when you’re out of diapers unless youre a dog. the correct response to this is “about time”. not “omg, such a good job, so happy, ur such a big boy, etc etc”
Haha you’re amazing. And you’ve made a really good point.
