I like this current trend of saying “I’m dying” or “I died” or just “dead” as text commentary in response to funny things. It gives me all the accolades of being a murderer with none of the criminal record.
It’s also a nice modern take on the traditional entertainment life-ending assessments, like wishing someone well who is about to do a live performance by telling them to “knock em dead” or noting afterward that they “killed em” or “slaughtered them” as a way of describing positive audience reception.
Laughter is a powerful weapon. And as the great Roger Rabbit once taught one Eddie Valient, “sometimes it’s the only weapon we have”.
And like any powerful weapon, it can be used for good or evil.
