Everyone is excited for the new Jurassic Park sequel with a different name because all the other Jurassic Park sequels were so… or no – they’re excited because… the special effects I guess? They’ve received a big upgrade since the originals so that could be pretty cool. Idk. It’s gonna be bad though.
Maybe not “Finding Dory” bad, but it won’t be good.
The Raptors are Good Guys now… yawn…
In the first Jurassic Park the Raptors are the bad guys and the T-Rex is the unallied good. Chaotic Good and Chaotic Evil running loose and wimpy humans have to survive int he turmoil. Awesome. The T-Rex was scary and a threat, but it did more good than bad in the movie (eating the selfish lawyer, and ultimately saving the humans from the raptors at the end in a straight up brawl) and was generally treated like a supercharged pit-bull with no training or familial ties in that it could be dangerous and kill you or it could just be a dog and exist and not bother you. The raptors on the other hand are shown to be calculating killers more along the lines of the aliens in Alien. Where as the Rex was only a threat if you drew its attention or otherwise provoked it, the raptors were focused hunters specifically looking to kill you.
Now the Raptors are the dogs for some reason and the bad-guy dinosaur that indiscriminately kills you is some “bigger and better than the t-rex” incarnation that they tried to do with the Spinasauraus in Jurassic Park 3 to boring effect. Domesticating raptors sounds cool but it robs the characters of their essential traits.
It’s just going to be a remake of the first Jurassic Park – just not as good
The trailer shows 2 siblings are going to the park, a dinosaur expert and his love interest have to save the day from a well intentioned but overzealous park founders naiveness mixed in with some good employees oblivious to some sabotage making employees after an electronic screw-up releases dinosaurs from their containers, and the crowd goes wild.
We already saw that happen. You can do it again, but it should be a later sequel to this new franchise. First you have to set up this new world. and on that note…
There’s no set-up
So obviously the still-being-built “park” which appeared to have just a hotel and some zoo style viewing areas of the dinos has all been reimagined as a full fledged adventure vacation destination and that’s all fine and cool and everything but we’re jumping into it all way too quickly. There are hamster ball roller things that arent on tracks (which would never be allowed) and a whole Sea World style show and luxury hotels and shops everywhere – which is cool – but it’s too much too fast. Even from just the trailer I can tell that we’re not going to get the chance to explore these areas with the time and detail we need to fully appreciate those same locations after the disaster happens.
