Dear Computers: We don’t need always-on light indicators when you’re asleep

When I first complained about this in 2007, I never dreamed that 10 thousand years in the future (I’m not good at math), I would still have to battle my Macbook Pro into getting it to visually STFU.

This is not necessary. I know you’re in sleep mode. There are a dozen ways this could be indicated other than a pulsating 60 watt light that brightens up my sleeping quarters. But why do I need to be visually notified that the computer is not off and is just suspended, anyway? My iPad doesn’t flash any indicators. That’s because it’s always on. Just make that the case with the computer. It shares the same flash memory system instead of the old tech of a spinning hard drive. Why can’t you just update the light notice and stop ruining my life?

Make the change, Apple… Have a Siri announcement when prompted if you think there will be mass chaos without a visible announcement that a laptop is not completely powered off. I don’t care. But i’m tired of having to drape my computing device in clothing just to afford myself a night of darkened slumber.
