I was just talking to someone online and they brought up how they don’t have any current pictures of themselves and how their friends that live in other places bug them about it.
So I said “get a webcam. They’re pretty cheap these days”.
And then I felt weird. But I wasn’t sure why. Then I thought… hmm
Suddenly I had a flashback to several years ago when I said this exact phrase to a girl online who had instant messaged me through a pre-myspace social networking site: “you need more pictures”. She had like one or two on her page and I couldn’t really tell what she looked like.
Her response was “I’m not like that”.
What the fruitcake?
“You’re not like what?” I naively asked in total sincerity. When she responded “I don’t do that”, I still had no frigging clue what this crazy betch was talking about.
After a minute of re-reading and thought, it finally became clear to me that this poor pathetic B thought I was soliciting her for salacious, skin showing, possibly partially or fully nude but definitely otherwise slutty pictures.
I had no idea how to respond.
In 1997, I got kicked off AOL for entering private room “PICS”. And I don’t mean AOL kicked me offline and I had too re-connect to the internet again – I mean they revoked my families AOL account, which at the time was still an internet service and one of the only ways to connect to it.
I was in trouble with my parents and it was embarrassing. All because someone in homeroom said “if you go into private room”pics”, you lose your AOL account” and I wanted to call bullsh*t. I said that was effing ridiculous. I was well aware of AOL’s extreme censorship, idiotic and often times fascistic TOS rules, but there was no way I was gonna believe they would be so anti-consumerist as to ban you from their service just cuz you typed in a 3 letter chatroom they decided was bad. Wups, I was wrong.
I literally entered the room and got booted. I never heard any time after that about private chatroom PICS being used for trafficking of child porn, animal porn, regular porn, furniture porn or anything good or bad ever.
AOL is stupid and so are dumb whoorz.
but at least an over sexualized society can be blamed for one of those. What’s the others excuse?
