How do “baking soda baths” work?

I heard someone mention Epsom salt somewhere a few months ago and it got me interested in trying it since I didn’t really understand what it does. In addition to being used as a laxative – which by the way, i tried in the recommended dose, just for fun, and it worked in tasting awful but not in creating a WWWF (“Willy Wonka WaterFall”) – its also a muscle relaxer. allegedly. bakingcokeI keep trying it and I never feel any different but I keep doing it for the same reason I bought a George Foreman Grill and QVC sunglasses: People told me it was awesome and that I couldn’t afford NOT to have partake.

Somewhere along the line I started adding baking soda to the bath brew. Why? Because I saw someone somewhere say to, obviously. And again I have no idea what the alleged benefit is even supposed to be. So I called up my friend the Internet and he directed me to the HowStuffWorks website, which is great. It tells you how anything works: a jet engine, a faucet, this “sex with a woman” thing i’m always hearing so much about – anything. So I look up baking soda bath and this is actually what it says:

Skin
The elements can do a lot of damage to skin. Baking soda can be a friend to your skin.

…thanks. I was wondering how this thing worked, and now i know that the elements can do damage to my skin… and that baking soda can be a friend. to my skin… thank you. That clears up. so much.

Arm&Hammers website says it neutralizes acids on the skin.
